Senior Diving Coach

I began diving with Bradford Esprit when I was 11 years old after competing for many years in National level gymnastics. I started competing in diving at novice level and worked my way up the competitive pathway until I was competing at senior national level and international level. I competed mainly in 1m and 3m springboard events as well as 3m synchronised diving. I represented Team GB in a variety of small junior internationals including the 6 Nations event. As a senior diver I won British National titles on the 1m springboard and in the 3m springboard synchronised event. At 18 I was selected again to represent Team GB at senior level. I competed in the 2002 FINA Diving Grand Prix’s in Rome and Madrid before heading to the European Championships in Berlin later that year. In August 2002, I moved to Texas where I had been offered a sports scholarship to attend Texas A&M University. I trained and competed there for 5 years whilst obtaining a degree and in 2005 became the Big XII (regional collegiate) champion on 1m and 3m boards in 2005. I also won diver of the meet and went on to compete in the 2005 NCAA (collegiate nationals) Championships.

Upon returning home from the USA I started working with Harrogate Borough Council, initially as a casual coach and later in 2008 as the full-time Senior Diving Coach. Over the years I have coached a variety of divers from complete beginners to elite level athletes. Some of my highlights have been coaching a young diver to become National Skills Finals champion in 2013 and an elite junior diver to win bronze on the 1m board at the 2012 British Gas Elite Junior National Championships, as well as being involved in the England Talent Programme. I also took a team of divers to the Bimbingamba Youth International in Rome in 2012 which was a great experience for everyone involved.
